Ad Copywriting

I began my copywriting career in a small, creative advertising boutique located in Boston’s South End. The guys who ran the shop had left the big ad agency in town to start their place. They were wildly creative, extraordinarily smart, and wanted to work around the clock. I learned more from them than in all my college classes combined. From there, I went to the in-house design shop at Starbucks. Living in Seattle was a dream I had held for many years, and working with those world-class designers was phenomenal. I had an itch to live in New York, though, and I knew if I didn’t do it in my 20’s, I might never get to. When the opportunity arose, I packed my bags and switched coasts again. Berlin Cameron, the agency I worked at while in Manhattan, was Ad Age’s Agency of the Year the year I was there. It was an intense, sometimes vicious, always culturally attuned shop that built some of the biggest brands in the world. If you’d like to know more about what it was like to work there, I recommend my book Copygirl, which was loosely based on the experience. If you are interested in viewing a portfolio of advertising work I completed for Wall Street Journal, The Glenlivet, Visa, Starbucks, and more, during these years, you can click here. For what I have been writing since my years as a full-time copywriter I recommend my magazine and book pages.
